The Daimler subsidiaries are apparently merrily working together on all sorts of projects, including the transformation of hybrid and full EV models into performance machines.
Ola Källenius, the chief for research and development, has allegedly shared details about the upcoming fate of some of the company’s performance models. His main surprise for us was that hybrid and pure electric models will eventually get the AMG badges – and these performance-enhanced greener vehicles might also come with the new logos from the recently established EQ subbrand. Daimler has already officially announced it would cater to the electric segment with an investment of 10 billion euros, so it would make sense to also get some performance models when so much cash is involved.
The executive was asked about the compatibility of the AMG and EQ subsidiaries, saying “I don’t think they are opposite extremes.” He also added “electrification will find its way into AMG, and for me it’s not impossible that you’ll have a fully electric version or an AMG variant of an EQ.” After all, we all remember the bold SLS AMG Electric Drive, which was also used as a “know-how builder for AMG to get our heads around electrification,” because sooner rather than later the AMG badge will be used for green models as well.
