It appears Mercedes-AMG chief executive officer Tobias Moers has recently revealed in an interview the new GT iteration packing active aerodynamics will be officially unveiled this summer.
The executive allegedly gave the confirmation on the sidelines of the ongoing North American International Auto Show in Detroit, though it appears the eager fans would not have all of their hopes fulfilled. That’s because Moers was pretty expansive and said the new version would not be featured in the Black Series and instead rely on active aerodynamics that will deliver “markedly improved performance.”
The rumors are calling for a new designation for this one – “Mercedes-AMG GT R” and the model would also come with an updated iteration of the biturbo 4.0-liter V8 that will now churn out about 550 horsepower. We have no hints that lightweighting procedures were also applied – though chances the massive team of AMG engineers also came up with a trick or two in that department as well. Moers also detailed an allusive new version for the GT, as being asked about a possible electric version he said the SLS Electric Drive involved a lot of homework that would not go to waste. He also said that although he is passionate about mid-engined models, such a version is currently out of the picture for a very simple reason – Mercedes-AMG is currently running at full production capacity.
