The Mercedes-Benz’s G-Class range topping version could “soon” become officially available in the United States, according to a report coming from Automotive News.
The news aggregator has confirmed the situation through company sources, although – as usual – the persons talked under condition of anonymity because they are not allowed to discuss private matters. The sources pointed out that the ultimate G-Wagen would be offered in America late in 2015 as a 2016 model year.
Owing to the model’s might and aura, the US customers expecting it to adorn their private patios and bulk up their garages would need to sign a check for at least $250,000.
If you missed your Mercedes-Benz class and you don’t remember much about the model that was launched back in 2012, here’s a quick recap. The G65 AMG has under the hood a petrol-burning monster of an engine: the twin-turbo 6.0-liter V12 is rated at 612 PS (450 kW) and 1000 Nm (737 lb-ft) of torque. Even as the G-Class was envisioned as the ultimate off-roader, the G65 AMG is all about road performance – it can jump to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 5.3 seconds and tops out at an electronically-limited top speed of 230 km/h (143 mph).
The highlights of the model won’t be the ground clearance or the gradients it can tackle, but rather the diamond-pattern designed leather seats, piano black trim or special floor mats. For onlookers, there’s also an aggressive body kit and 20-inch alloy rims.
