During October’s Paris Motor Show the German automaker will bring a concept vehicle that is acting as a preview for a production model set to rival Tesla’s Model X starting 2019.
According to sources that have enticed the rumor mill, one of the four electric cars planned by Mercedes-Benz is going to be previewed as early as this October during the Paris Motor Show. And this model will be a never-before seen crossover that will hold its own against the new benchmark of electric SUVs – the Tesla Model X. The concept is already being built and will act as the preview for a production model that should get into dealerships sometimes in 2019. There aren’t lots of details shared about the new model but it will allegedly deploy a new design language that “takes into consideration the unique properties of electric vehicles.” This most likely means a careful aerodynamic planning and the lack of certain air intakes – now superfluous.
The crossover is also reportedly championing an all new electric vehicle architecture that will also be used for a sedan that should take on the Tesla Model S and the upcoming production version of the Porsche Mission E concept. The reports flying off the mill speak of a huge battery pack that weighs up to 882 pounds for this new platform. According to Mercedes sales and marketing chief, Ola Källenius, Mercedes is even considering honing its green skills in the newly minted Formula E competition.
