According to the latest rumor flying off the mill, the Mercedes-AMG division is preparing in absolute secrecy a hypercar – but we should all take this with a huge dose of salt as the unit boss has repeatedly denied there is such a model in development.
Anyways, as the story goes the Mercedes-AMG ultimate street machine would have a 1,000-horsepower (746-kilowatt) turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder (!!!) and some 300 hp more from a couple of electric motors (that sounds more like real stuff). The 1,300-hp (969-kW) monster is also coming out really quickly – paying tribute next year to the half of century of AMG existence. We’ll give the automakers credit for pulling the rabbit out of the hat (Ford’s surprise GT appearance) but we’re still finding it hard to believe such a model could actually exist.
The Mercedes-AMG product would be the ultra-exclusive rival to models such as the upcoming Bugatti Chiron or the Aston Martin AM-RB 001. That incredible turbo engine would spin the rear axle while the two electric motors power the front wheels. There would also be a 2,866 pounds (1,300 kilograms) scale-tipping carbon-fiber monocoque while numerous safety and driver assistance systems would be in charge of protecting the driver from himself and helping him unleash the massive power. Prices are equally preposterous – at about three million euros, which is even more than the asking price of the Chiron.
