While the Dodge Journey is a capable family carrier with crossover credentials, it has remained a model in the shadows from its inception. But the company might want to spice up things for the next iteration.
According to the latest report, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles is now thinking about treating the 2019 Dodge Journey to Alfa Romeo’s Giulia rear-wheel drive architecture. The new model generation is also switching production locations – as it will allegedly become an Italian-manufactured vehicle. This is of course due to the deployment of the Alfa Romeo Giulia platform. There aren’t many details to go about the model but the future generation of the Dodge journey could go even further towards the crossover class by having numerous connections to the upcoming Alfa Romeo SUV model which could be titled Stelvio.
There aren’t any details regarding the powertrain credentials for the new Journey, but since it uses the Giulia platform it could also deploy its engines. This means a plethora of different options including a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder that produces 276 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. The decision to change the production location from the Toluca Assembly Plant in Mexico to Mexico might be related to the latter being prepared to start the build of the Jeep Compass and Patriot successor and also enhance utilization of the FCA factories in Italy.
