After a successful but lackluster critic-reviewed Cars 2, Pixar is aiming to rekindle its well known cinematic modjo with “very emotional” Cars 3 feature.
The new movie will be in cinemas for the pleasure of both young and adult fans on June 16, 2017 – and while the second installment earned three times the US total of the first, the creators are aiming to reenact the magic of the original Cars. While the spy-actioned Cars 2 will be abandoned, we can expect the same level of warm humor as seen throughout the franchise, with Pixar exec and director John Lasseter adding there will be several new characters – for an “emotional story.”
“Lightning McQueen, he’s awesome,” Lasseter discussed with the media. We’ve got some great new characters, some great racing in it. It’s a very emotional story. It’s a little bit more akin to Cars 1, where you get into a deep emotion with him. It’s really a special story. It’s very emotional and his relationship with Doc Hudson, and his memory of Doc Hudson.” Last month we found out McQueen is in a position where his entire racing generation is being pushed out,” as per director Brian Fee’s declarations for USA Today. Pixar might be aiming for a successful follow-up to the Cars original – and we’re hoping they get it right, in the same vein as they did with their first franchise – Toy Story.
