Following the reveal of the Kwid small crossover, CEO Carlos Ghosn promised an entire family of models based off the company’s CMF-A architecture, but so far they only delivered the Datsun redi-Go, a model that emulates the Kwid.
There are now new rumors coming out of India about an upcoming CMF-A based model that should take the form of a very affordable sedan. The model is a no-frills take on the Kwid, sharing the same design cues and a styling that incorporates the bigger trunk. The guys over there also did their homework, asking digital artists from SRK-Designs to represent the possible model. While you might think this is a model that no one would ever buy, think again – even Volkswagen turned the much more reputable Polo into a sedan – calling it the Ameo.
According to the report source, the yet to be named Kwid-based sedan has been internally dubbed the LBC – with the main idea being the desire to produce efficient and affordable motoring. In India, the subcompact car segment took flight when the government lowered taxes to make motoring more affordable and for now the main king is the Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire. But it now has a huge competitor roster, including the VW Ameo but also the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent, Tata Zest or the Ford Figo Aspire. Meanwhile, sources in France have actually denied the subcompact sedan, instead pointing towards an SUV – but in fact both could hav a chance since the segments are very popular.
