A Toyota GT86-based sedan is approved for production, according to a recent report which is citing an “inside source”.
Good news for those of you looking for a cheap sedan with rear-wheel drive, preferably made by a Japanese company, because such a model is very close to hitting the market. The announcement has been made by Auto Express, which is citing an “inside source” and it’s saying that the model in question will actually ride on the same platform as the GT86, but its wheelbase will be stretched by 100mm (3.9 inches), which will provide an additional leg room. The vehicle is also expected to get a new front grille.
As for the engine, the Toyota GT86-based sedan will get the same 2.0 liter four-cylinder unit under its hood, made by Subaru and fitted with Toyota’s D-4S direct injection system. The total output stands at 200 HP (149 kW) and 205 Nm (151 lb-ft) of torque. A Hybrid R version is also in the books, which may come with 250-270 HP, being 10-15 percent more fuel efficient than the standard one. Additional details on the Toyota GT86-based sedan are limited for the moment and will probably be announced sometimes next year.
