The Spanish automaker is allegedly going down the usual route for a new product – launch it and then start working on a high-performance Cupra version.
If you think the Spanish automaker is just doing Cupra versions because the Skoda group brother has its own RS models then just look at the so-called ‘Ring Wolves (nothing to do with The Walking Dead series). These Nurburgring fans know the race track like the back of their hand and usually deploy tuned hot hatches such as an inconspicuous Seat Leon Cupra R – then give a run for their money to drivers that feature utterly impressive supercars. Anyways, Whiel Seat’s Ateca SUV is not yet in showrooms, the automaker is already planning its development stages – the Cupra version is a natural progression.
The Seat Ateca Cupra crossover is likely to pack no less than 300 bhp and it has been tipped by the rumor mill for a quick presentation during the fall’s Paris Motor Show taking place this October. Of course, a more aggressive body kit is on the menu, with beefier front and rear bumpers, as well as prominent side skirts. The ride height will also get reduced and of course the Ateca will lose some of its off-road credentials. Under the hood buyers should find an updated variant of the four-cylinder 2.0-litre turbo from the Leon Cupra, but massaged to reach 300 bhp. Having a standard all wheel drive, the Ateca has the potential to deliver similar credentials as seen in the Volkswagen Golf R, meaning a torque figure of about 380 Nm is to be expected.
