We’ve known officially a “Coupe” version of the Kodiaq is coming since this spring, and now we learn from a roadmap leaked during a presentation of the company in China its name will be the Kodiaq GT.
With a more premium design line – one that usually takes away a good chunk of rear room and trunk space, we can bet the new Kodiaq GT won’t be available in the family-friendly seven-seater format like the normal Kodiaq. Skoda has already previewed the series model with the help from its Vision E concept, but we’re not exactly sure the new model is also going to adopt the electric powertrain from day one. By the way, the roadmap isn’t from some years ago, as some might believe seeing the Yeti there – in China the popular crossover still lives on, being locally assembled by the SAIC-VW joint venture.
The Karoq isn’t even available there yet, and even when it lands there next year it doesn’t mean the Yeti will be retired there as well like it happened at home in Europe. Also of note is the existence of another unreleased “mainstream SUV”, set to become the basics of the crossover offerings from the brand in China. It’s most likely a subcompact crossover using the same MQB A0 platform as the SEAT Arona – sharing essentials with the newly released Ibiza and Polo.
