Report – SsangYong looking to join the electric party with battery SUV in 2019 image

The South Korean automaker is looking to make a bigger name for himself on the global automotive scene lately and is reportedly planning on a new crossover model.

More interestingly, this new nameplate will also be featured as a fully electric model, thanks to the assistance (and cash) of current parent – India’s Mahindra (also the owner of Italian design house Pininfarina). With the prospects of extinction now in the rearview mirror, the small specialist carmaker has allegedly decided to grow its model range even further. Codenamed “C300,” the new high-riding model will be here as fast as next year and will be introduced into the lineup between the Tivoli and the quirky Tivoli XLV.

More interesting might sound the 2019 introduction of the electric version of the crossover, and we’re hoping Mahindra will allow some cross-sharing of design ideas coming from Pininfarina – thus hopefully SsangYong will come with more interesting designs for its models. Additionally, the company has plans to bring to market an all new Rexton flagship SUV generation in about two years – and afterwards a next generation Actyon pickup truck will also become available, using the same architecture as the range-topping model. The company and its parent are also still debating a possible US introduction – which might bring a name change to better resonate with the new audience.
