Not too long ago we told you that American officials of the German brand confirmed the future existence of a new Jetta version – a mild crossover style Alltrack that will be based on the SportWagen model. Now we also have a possible launch date.
According to the most recent report this future version – dedicated exclusively to the American market – could come to the market in December of 2014.
The model is expected to feature plastic body cladding, larger alloy wheels and meatier tires. We can also expect all-wheel drive and an increased ride height that will make the model 1-2 inches (25-50mm) taller than the SportWagen. The car could also have a revised front fascia to help separate it from the more mainstream wagon.
This time around when asked, Volkswagen of America product strategy and marketing manager Kevin Joostema declined to confirm the existence of the vehicle but told Edmunds reporters “You can’t ignore the success Subaru is having, especially with the Crosstrek coming out.” He added that the “profile for our core SportWagen customers is very similar to some of those Subaru customers.”
