Bentley wants to deliver a more affordable sports car – the one previewed by the stunning EXP 10 Speed 6 and EXP 12 Speed 6e concepts – but it needs final approval from the VW Group managers.
Bentley has been paving the way for an entry into the smaller two-seater sports car segment for years now, and even created a cabriolet all-electric version that is even more gorgeous. The company’s chief of technical operations of the Mulliner bespoke division, Uday Senapati, revealed recently during an interview there’s “definitely” customer interest for such models – but things aren’t that simple. This is because voices within the Volkswagen Group think it could deliver some friendly fire against the Audi R8. This is why the Speed 6 is still pending approval from Wolfsburg.
Senapati has even admitted the company even did most of the development work already, with the folks over at Crewe having a solid business case for it and the means to “cheaply” produce it – since they’re part of a huge group they can find the right components without much trouble. And the manager even hinted the all-electric powertrain would make it into production, as hinted by the recent concept from this year’s Geneva Motor Show.
