During the 2016 IAA Commercial Vehicles show in Hannover, Germany, Volkswagen hinted with the introduction of the near-production concept e-Crafter that it was ready to embrace electricity at all levels.
This means not only passenger electric cars, but also commercial vehicles relying solely on batteries – as competitors, such as Renault, have already gone down the route. The company has already announced the series production model will be unveiled sometimes this year and now we are finding out its potential name – “E-Transporter.” The branding has been secured recently by the carmaker, alongside other, interesting monikers – Allsider, Duomotion, and Twin Motion. According to the rumor mill, the first might belong to a new model in the growing VW Commercial Vehicles range, while the latter two should depict the type of powertrain – standard hybrid and plug in hybrid.
As far as the new “E-Transporter” is concerned, it’s expected to closely follow in the footsteps of the concept – n electric motor delivering 134 horsepower (100 kilowatts) and an instant torque of 214 pound-feet (290 Newton-meters), with enough prowess to reach a 50 mph (80 km/h) maximum speed. The concept used a 43-kWh lithium-ion battery pack sitting below the cargo space floor lasting at least 124 miles (200 kilometers).
