Rinspeed introduces the Oasis autonomous EV concept, to reveal it at CES image

The Swiss design house is well known for its quirky and yet enticing prototypes – but we’re a little puzzled by the latest creation being shown at CES in Las Vegas instead of the usual Geneva Motor Show.

Additionally, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas will open its doors to the worldwide audience on January 5 next year, and Rinspeed seems rather anxious to show us their creation months ahead. The Oasis prototype is a small hatchback developed mostly for use in the crowded urban areas – has seating for two – and has been envisioned for duties such as personal/delivery car, and of course comes with a zero emissions powertrain. The creator calls it the “trendy buddy of Star Wars icon R2D2” because it has an almost zero turning radius, which is great when you’re in a crowded town.

Rinspeed founder and CEO, Frank M. Rinderknech, says the Oasis concept can perform various duties – for example pizza delivery car – because it has been fitted with a special compartment in the back that can be cooled or heated according to necessities. There’s a big windscreen, easy access thanks to the two sliding doors and the “ambiance of a modern-day family room” inside. When the car goes into autonomous mode the persons inside can watch TV projected onto the big windscreen. No details about the powertrain have been disclosed – but e know it’s fully electric and also comes with solar panels on the roof to store energy.
