Rinspeed XchangE Concept autonomous car going to Geneva image

Rinspeed will officially pull the wraps off the XchangE Concept, an autonomous car, next month, during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show, in a world premiere.

Rinspeed is currently exploring the potential designs of an autonomous vehicle which, in its configuration, is said to rival the popular Tesla Model S. The model in question is named the XchangE and it’s basically a concept car which can offer us a glimpse into the future of motoring.

“Traveling in a driverless car will no longer require me to stare at the road, but will let me spend my time in a more meaningful way. So far hardly anyone has taken this to its logical conclusion from the perspective of the driver”, said the Rinspeed boss, Frank Rinderknecht.

The new Rinspeed XchangE Concept’s steering wheel can be moved into the center of the dashboard, when it’s not being use, to maximize space. The regular seats can be replaced with airline-style tilting ones, which make it possible for the vehicle’s occupants to work or simply relax. The seats have 20 different levels of adjustment which is basically a world record.

The model is also getting a new type of interface, which features functions for the entertainment navigation, assistance and services and these are being displayed in the four screens located around the cabin. Other goodies available for this model include the RFID technology, which can identify the authorized driver, the EndLighten headliner, with 358 individually controlled LEDs, the PatraviTravelTec technology, a Plexiglas roof and 20-inch Borbet wheels. More details on the Rinspeed XchangE Concept will be announce in Geneva.
