Sales of Clean Diesel Vehicles in the US Increased 25.6% in 2012

According to HybridCars.Com and Baum and Associates, sales of clean diesel vehicles have increased 25.6% this year.

Last month sales of clean diesel vehicles were up 21.2% compared with the same period last year, 44% in September and 28.1% in August. This year in the US sales of hybrid vehicles have increased 67.8% and the overall sales of cars have gone up 13.8%.

“The 44 percent increase in U.S. clean diesel sales in September was the largest gain of any month in 2012,” said Allen Schaeffer, the Executive Director of the Diesel Technology Forum. “And the overall 25.6 percent increase in 2012 is almost double the overall auto market increase of 13.8 percent.”

Schaeffer also believes that sales of clean diesel vehicles are at the beginning of a ‘renaissance’ in the US and he expects dramatic sales increase in the near future as today’s clean diesels are faster, cleaner and more efficient then they were 40 or 30 years ago.
