In the first three months Lexus hybrid sales in China grew 25%, up 10% from the company’s initial target.
The news comes following the Chinese market debut of the Lexus GS 250 and GS 350 last week. Toyota’s market strategy in China is based on the hybrid technology, which is a core part of the parent company. That is why it was only a matter of time before Lexus began making large strides in the segment.
Lang Lixin, Toyota Motor (China) Investment Vice President, sais that since its debut last November, the CT 200h sales have constantly been exceeding 1,200 units, with 1,456 units sold in March alone. Mr. Lang was very proud in Lexus’ accomplishments in the electric vehicle sector, echoing that they surpassed previously set targets.
For the strong sales, Lexus should thank parent company Toyota and its Yundong plan, announced last month in Beijing, according to which the Chinese market will be a key destination for the manufacturer’s environmentally friendly products and technologies. Lexus plans to sell a total of 88,000 units this year, up 55% compared to 2011.
