Scania and GAZ Provide 709 Buses for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi

Scania and GAZ will offer 709 busses for the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi.

The Russia public transport operator Mostransavto has ordered 709 large and extra-large GOLAZ buses, which will transport athletes and guests during the XXII Winter Olympic Games and XI Winter Paralympic Games 2014 in Sochi. The total value of the buses almost reaches 150 million euro and the vehicles will be delivered by the end of this year.

“Putting such a large number of buses into operation means that the Scania brand will receive wide exposure in Russia. Even more significant is the service potential that the deal provides for our workshops in the Moscow region,” said Hans Tardell, Managing Director of Scania Russia.

GAZ and Scania have developed three versions of the GOLAZ branded buses: two for intercity service and one for occasional service, all manufactured with powertrain and chassis components provided by Scania. The buses which are to be delivered were tested from February to July 2012 on the Olympic routes in Sochi.

“To meet customers’ demand at the international standards level, GAZ Group has invested more than RUB 1.3 billion to develop innovative bus models and to upgrade the manufacturing capacities of the bus plants. New versions of GOLAZ buses have been developed specifically for the Olympics,” said Bo Andersson, President/CEO of GAZ Group.
