Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus as announced that the SCG 003 has become the fastest vehicle to go around the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

Porsche 918 Spyder’s crown of the fastest production supercar to lap the Ring has been stolen recently by a name that doesn’t really say anything to most people: Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus. The SCG 003 is now the fastest production vehicle to lap the famous German track as the model did it in just 6 minutes and 43 seconds , which is significantly less than what the 918 Spyder achieved, 6:57. The company said that that the SCG 003S could eventually lap the Ring in 6:30 and this is pretty interesting considering the fact that 6:30 is also the objective set by Koenigsegg.

The Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG 003 is a very limited edition sports car which has been officially launched at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. The SCG 003 is the third car to be introduced by the company which is owned by James Glickenhaus. The model in question is street legal and it is getting a carbon fiber monocoque chassis. The racing version, SCG 003C, is taking its power from a 3.5 liter V6 twin-turbo engine signed by Honda. The unit is capable of producing a total output of 530 HP (390 kW) at 6,800 rpm and 700 Nm (517 lb-ft) of torque, available at 4,500 rpm. The unit is connected to a sequential transmission. The SCG 003C weighs 1,350 kg and it has a 49:51 weight distribution. He SCG 003S street legal version has a V12 engine under its hood. Prices for the model start at 2.59m USD.

  1. They said on their Facebook page that they estimated the time:

“Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus To be clear. During the race before being black flagged for being too loud we ran an 8:12 GP+NS lap which is about a 6:42 NS. All of the top GT3’s run this pace and a few were even faster. When black flagged we were in 6TH. We remain hopeful that with improvement we will run with the very the top teams. We do think that our road version will be a lot closer to our race version than most GT3’s and with unrestricted HP and without required race ballast our road version, even on our very bespoke Dunlop Road Tires, we’ll be just about as fast around the NS as our race version. This remains the raison d’être of SCG 003C, a race car for the road and a road car that you can race in real races as one could in days past.”

And would a car that’s not properly road homologated really be relevant in a comparison with Porsche’s and Koenigsegg’s street legal offerings? The thing that ran on the Ring couldn’t pass a speed bump and got disqualified for not being race legal.

The important piece of information to take from this is there many other race cars in front of it that are just as road legal and more race legal since they can race in GT3 and didn’t get DQed for failing sound emissions.

All of these other race cars who were quicker can just like the SCG003 also be “converted for the road” with the help of a team of technicians and a rebuild to make them pass muster in select areas.

And depending on the trim there is no guarantee it will go faster. Does the street version include softer suspension to make the ride more bearable? Does it add a few centimeters ride height so it’s able to pass speed bumps? Ok now the car will be slower. It will have more roll, less underbody downforce and less downforce from the wing.

A little bit of scrutiny and one or two pinches of salt would be in order.
