Arnold Schwarzenegger’s two dreams – a sustainable future and owning cars that befit his Terminator alternate – have finally been fulfilled with help from Austria’s Kreisel Electric.
Without further ado, here we have the first electric-powered Hummer H1. The company has previously envisioned other capable off-roaders going electric – a Mercedes G Class, again attached to Schwarzenegger’s image, that switched from promoting the gas-guzzling Hummer to dreams of electric cars after two stints as a California governor. “Kreisel Electric electrified my G-Class last winter. And now a Hummer. If Kreisel keeps it up at this pace, I will soon be able to fly here from LA in an electric airplane,” commented Schwarzenegger, on point to reveal the SUV and also Kreisel Electric’s new research and development center in Rainbach, Austria.
Fitted with the company’s powertrain, the humongous SUV has 483 horsepower (360 kilowatts), with the 100 kilowatt-hour battery good for up to 186 miles (300 kilometers) of driving range. Fortunately or not – depending on your view – the Hummer prototype is exactly that, a two-months’ worth of modified vehicle. The powertrain includes an electric motor for each axle and with the battery pack the already heavyweight becomes a tank, tipping the scales at 7,275 pounds (3,300 kilograms). We’re pretty eager to hear word from the Terminator once he takes it for a joyride, perhaps hitting the 75 miles per hour (120 kilometers per hour) maximum speed in the process.
