The Spanish based automaker Seat has recently announced that the Leon hatchback has been launched in China, where the entry-level version has a starting price of 243,900 RMB.
Seat has kept its word on launching the new Leon in China and after the car manufacturer has announced back in February that the hatchback will arrive in the Asian country, everything is now official. According to the company, the base level Seat Leon, equipped with the 1.8 liter turbo engine has a starting price of 243,900 RMB in China, but this can go up to 294,600 RMB for the top of the line version which is coming with the 2.0 liter turbo engine.
While on the European market Seat is often seen as an economy brand, in China the company is being repositioned as a sporting brand with pretty high aspirations, thanks to using the same platform with the sixth generation of the Volkswagen Golf and also sharing the GTI’s 2.0T engine, which is selling for 250,000 RMB in the country.
The 2.0 liter TSI engine in the Seat Leon is mated to a six-speed DSG transmission and the 1.8 liter TSI unit to a seven-speed DSG gearbox, just like the Passat and Passat CC. Besides the Leon, Seat will also launch the Ibiza in China in the nearby future.
