The German based automaker Volkswagen and its Shanghai Auto partner have recently announced that a new sub-Passat sedan will be launched in China.
The sub-Passat sedan is named the Jetta in Europe and even if China also has this model, the joint venture between Shanghai Auto and Volkswagen will manufacture a new sedan which will sit below the Passat in terms of sizing. The FAW-VW model will be named the Sagitar and it will be a new generation of the model which is known as the Jetta in over-seas markets, according to chinacartimes.com.
Our source is also telling us that besides the new sub-Passat model which will hit the Chinese market from the Shanghai Auto and Volkswagen joint venture, the two companies are also working on a new Santana, which will be named the SantanaNF. The model will be launched close to the end of 2012 and it is very likely that this will be shown as a concept car at the 2012 Beijing Auto Show.
According to chinacartimes.com, the Shanghai Auto – Volkswagen’s Lavida model is the only vehicle to sit below the Passat in terms of sizing and its prices currently reach 150.000rmb, but the joint venture is looking to develop a new model which will sit in the 150.000-200.000rmb segment, over the Lavida and below the Passat.
