Shanghai VW Sold Over 75,000 Units in June in China image

Shanghai Volkswagen’s sales in June were up 6.6% to 75, 806 units compared to the same period last year.

From January to June Shanghai Volkswagen managed to sell 480, 532 vehicles. The New Passat sold 13, 918 units in June playing an important role in the midsize segment, with its total market share around 11%. Since the beginning of the year the model sold around 100,000 units.

The old Lavida compact sold 110,577 units from January to June, continuing to perform strongly. The Polo models sold 13,664 units in June, up 45% and monthly sales of the new Polo 6 reached 8,009 units. Sales of the Tiguan urban SUV increased 37% in June, to 13,103 units and 76,312 units from January to June.

Last week Shanghai Volkswagen celebrated its 8,000,000th sedan that rolled off the assembly line. The blue New Lavida sedan marked a new milestone for the joint venture, which is one of China’s earliest auto JVs. In September 2011 Shanghai VW produced the 7,000,000th sedan. This means that it took the company only 9 months to manufacture 1,000,000 sedans. Currently Shanghai VW has four auto plants in China and plans to build new factories in Ningbo, Zhejiang and Yizheng, Jiangsu.
