Shelby GT500 Cobra made to celebrate Carroll Shelby image

A very special one-off Shelby GT500 Cobra has just been made in order to celebrate Carroll Shelby, and the model has been presented at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion.

According to Shelby American, the Shelby GT500 Cobra is coming with a Guardsman Blue exterior with white body stripes, with a new wide body kit, new engine hood and a fresh set of 20-inch alloy wheels. Under the hood, the Shelby GT500 Cobra is getting the same 5.8 liter V8 engine which has now been equipped with a 4.0 liter Whipple supercharge, which is allowing the unit to generate a total output of 850 horsepower (862 PS / 634 kW), compared to the standard 662 HP (671 PS / 494 kW).

Shelby American says that the GT500 Cobra will tour the United States and it might even be used to support one of Carroll Shelby’s favorite charities. As a quick reminder, Carroll Shelby’s company, Shelby American Inc., was founded back in 1962 and it’s currently selling modified Ford vehicles, along with performance parts and he was a world class automobile racing driver in the 1950’s. After starting as amateur, he became a driver for teams like Aston Martin, Cad-Allard or Maserati, and while he drove for Aston Martin, he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1959. Carroll Shelby has left this world at 89, being survived by his wife, three children, six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
