Skoda has begun manufacturing the third-generation Octavia sedan in Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
In Ukraine, Skoda manufactures the third-generation Octavia in alliance with local partner Eurocar in Solomonovo and production in Kazakhstan takes place in collaboration with Azia Avto at Ust-Kamenogorsk. In Ukraine the automaker also builds the Yeti, Roomster, Superb and Fabia models from Semi-Knocked-Down form and at the Solomonovo plant Skoda produces the Superb, Yeti and Fabia models, plus the new Octavia.
Semi-Knocked-Down production of the new Octavia will be made by using prefabricated car bodies which are imported in Kazakhstan and Ukraine from the Czech Republic. The new Skoda is to be launched in Kazakhstan this month, and it has already hit the Ukraine market. Last month the Czech automaker started production of the new Octavia in Russia too.
Production and logistics chief Michael Oeljeklaus said: “Now, by starting the local production of the third generation Octavia in both countries, we aim to continue this success story.”
Last year Skoda’s sales in Ukraine increased 32% to 14,400 units and its market share went up to 6.6% from 4.9%, while sales in Kazakhstan jumped an amazing 158% to 1,900 units during the same period.
