Skoda has officially pulled the wraps off the brand new Fabia R5 concept race car at the 2014 Essen Motor Show.
The Skoda Fabia R5 has been officially presented to the public during the 2014 Essen Motor Show, after it has been unveiled online, a couple of weeks ago. The racer is based on the third generation of the Fabia and it will be racing in the WRC 2 series, next year. It has a minimum required weight of 1,230 kg (2,711 lbs) and it will be getting the typical WRC 2 spec aerodynamic body kit, including the rear wing and the roof scoop.
Skoda has also added the MacPherson struts and a four-cylinder 1.6 liter gasoline turbocharged engine, which cannot be found on the street legal version because the most powerful one has 110 HP (81 kW) from the 1.2 TSI unit. Power will be sent to the wheels, wrapped in Michelin tires, through a 5-speed sequential transmission. More details on the brand new Skoda Fabia R5 race care are limited at this time and will probably be announced next year, close to its racing debut.
