The low-cost Logan model made by Renault, Nissan or the Dacia brand in Romania, will have a direct rival with Skoda preparing a new car which could be sold under the Popular, MissionL or even Felicia name, and it will be placed on the market between Fabia and Octavia.
The Popular name has been used by Skoda in 1930s – 1940s for its low-cost cars and the Czech automaker says that the production model will be very close to the prototype, in terms of design. The new Skoda concept which will hit the Frankfurt Motor Show next week has been inspired by Vision D, unveiled at this year’s Geneva Auto Show, with small headlights with LED technology, square shapes and a new radiator grille.
The new Skoda model will be manufactured in two variants, as five and six-door, and could be sold first in Asia (China, India), but the company’s officials are taking into consideration selling it in Europe only in the four-door version.
“The world premiere in Frankfurt gives a clear signal that Skoda is going full steam ahead now. We are going to present a new vehicle every six months over the next two to three years”, said the Skoda board chairman, Dr. H. C. Winfried Vahland.
Even if the two pictures presented here of the new Skoda model could actually be more the Octavia facelift than a low-cost competitor to the Logan, the Czech automaker will launch its prototype next week, at the Frankfurt Auto Show, and we will see its exact design.
