Arguably this one is more for the fans of the Czech model than regular customers, with the “WRC 2 2017 Champion” special edition celebrating Skoda’s “most successful year in motorsports history,” that includes the mentioned WRC 2 world title.
The sedate hatchback – which is almost always bland when not derived in the hot RS trim – has gone through a nice and nifty race-ready transformation, with a candy white paint job mixed with a black roof for the exterior. There’s a color popping from the 17-inch Savio alloy wheels – white, black, or bright green. Naturally there are also “WRC 2 2017 Champion” badges, along with a few extra trinkets in the cabin. While this is no RS, the new special edition doesn’t come out just as an appearance package, and instead sports a few mechanical updates as well.
The 1.4-liter TSI engine comes with 125 horsepower (92 kilowatts), and linked to the ubiquitous DSG transmission it will jump to 62 miles per hour (100 kilometers per hour) in just 8.8 seconds, on its way to a maximum speed of 126 mph (203 kph). This feisty little engine is hooked to a sports suspension system with decreased ground clearance and modified firmness for the shock absorbers. A new steering wheel, sports seats, and an updated exhaust system are also part of the performance menu. A mere 1,300 units will be built by Skoda and orders can be placed across 21 different market – among them the Czech Republic, Germany, France, Sweden and Finland.
