Czech auto manufacturer has announced its plans to build a new saloon car especially for the Chinese market.
Battle for China are the words that can best describe the competition between European car manufacturers in the Asian country.
Rumors regarding the construction of a new saloon car for China’s auto market were confirmed by Skoda, even though the manufacturer didn’t provide any specific details of the model.
According to Skoda’s officials, the Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co will produce a new car starting wilth 2013, as part of a joint venture between VW and SAIC.
“China is playing a central role for the growth of Skoda”, said chief Winfried Vahland, who also announced the company’s target: doubling sales to 1.5 million units by 2018.
The Shanghai Volkswagen Automotive Co is producing Superb, Octavia, Fabia and Yeti models for China.
Since the launch of the Skoda sub-brand on the Chinese market in 2007, more than 112.000 units were sold in the country.
