Skoda to export vehicles from India? image

The Czech automaker – Skoda may start exporting cars manufactured in India to different countries across the globe in future.

The VW’s owned automaker expects the Rapid sedan to become its best-selling car in the country, surpassing compact car Fabia’s numbers.

“This car is specifically designed for India and the launch will be the global launch for the car. At a later stage, it may be introduced in different markets across the world.” Skoda Auto India Marketing Head Tarun Jha said.

If the export plan will get its final approval, the Rapid will be exported to the neighboring right-hand drive countries like Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan and Nepal at the beginning.

The Czech based automaker Skoda has recently announced that its Indian made Rapid model will be officially unveiled on the 16th of November, 2011, after the vehicle has entered production at the Pune plant, in October.

Rapid will be the first ever compact sedan model in the country from Skoda portfolio; as Skoda’s current portfolio in the Indian market include premium sedans like Superb, Skoda Laura, Yeti and compact hatchback Skoda Fabia.

On the base variant of the Rapid, Skoda will not offer airbags or ABS as standard piece of kit, thus allowing the Czech carmaker to price the base variant very competitively, well under 7 Lakh Rupees.
