The Frankfurt Motor Show has been chosen by Mercedes-Benz to present its new V8 engine, which will power the SLK55 AMG.
According to the manufacturer the new 5.5 liter V8 has received an extra 60 HP, compared to the old version, and the torque has been risen from 509 Nm to 539 Nm. Even though the power has been boosted in the new AMG SLK55, fuel economy and CO2 emissions have been improved by 30 percent over the old model.
The new 5.5 liter V8 is inspired by the Formula 1 technology with a cylinder management shut-off, allowing the engine to run on four cylinders, improving the fuel economy.
The engine in the new Mercedes is a normally aspirated version of the 5.461 cc which powers the new AMG CLS63 and E63.
The Frankfurt Motor Show, scheduled for this year’s September, will also host a diesel version of the SLK, 250CDI, which will be powered by a four-cylinder turbo diesel engine that provides 201 HP.
Customers of the future Mercedes-Benz variants will be able to buy them from showrooms starting early next year.
