During the ongoing Paris Motor Show the city-dwelling automaker has decided to showcase its entire Electric Drive range – and has also announced the pricing details in Germany.
The European market launch is still some months away from now – tipped for the spring of 2017. The new Electric Drive models span across the entire model roster of the brand – ForTwo Coupe, ForTwo Cabrio and the practical ForFour. Range anxiety shouldn’t be an issue across town – the ForTwo is rated at 99 miles (160 km) while the other two each have 96 miles (155 km) on a single charge in the rather permissive New European Driving Cycle. The range is an improvement over the predecessors and charging has also been lowered to just two and a half hours. In 2017 Smart will also introduce an optional fast charger that will top out the battery in no more than 45 minutes.
All three Electric Drive models have the same powertrain: 17.6-kWh lithium-ion battery and an electric motor packing 81 hp (60 kW) and 118 lb-ft (160 Nm) of torque. They will be little slouches though, with the ForTwo coupe reaching 62 mph (100 kph) in 11.5 seconds, followed by the cabrio in 11.8 seconds and the ForFour ED in 12.7 seconds. For the German market prices kick off at €21,940 for the ForTwo Coupe, at €22,600 for the ForFour and at €25,200 when selecting the fashionable ForTwo Cabrio ED.
