Smart ForTwo Electric Drive to become cheapest EV in the U.S. image

Smart has recently announced its plans to launch the most affordable electric vehicle, the ForTwo Electric Drive, in the United States, next spring.

According to the car manufacturer, the all-new Smart ForTwo Electric Drive will be available to its future owners over-seas starting with next spring, after the company has announced its intention to launch the model in its two body styles, coupe and convertible, in the United States. Prices for the new Smart ForTwo Electric Drive Coupe will start at 25,000 USD while for the Smart ForTwo Electric Drive Convertible, its future owners in the U.S. will have to pay from 28,000 USD.

The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive in its two body styles is also eligible for government rebates up to 7,500 USD and this means that the model will be the most affordable electric vehicle across the United States. The Smart ForTwo Electric Drive is coming with a 17.6 kWh lithium-ion battery which is powering the 75 HP (55 kW) and 130 Nm of torque (96 lb-ft) electric motor, enabling it to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 11.5 seconds and travel up to 90 miles (145 km) on a single charge. More details on the model will be announced close to its launch.
