Smart ForTwo’s newest generation is debuting in the U.S. image

Smart has debuted the new generation of the ForTwo city car in the United States, as the model in question has been introduced at the 2015 New York Auto Show, recently.

After being available for order on the Old Continent from about a year now, the new generation of the Smart ForTwo is getting ready to cross the ocean as the company is planning on introducing it in the United States. The city cruiser has made its local debut at the 2015 New York Auto Show, and it has managed to attract quite a lot of curious eyes. The company is expecting this to become a hit especially since it will probably be cheaper than the one offered in Europe.

The third generation of the Smart ForTwo will be arriving in the U.S. later on this year and it will be offered as a 2016 model year. The model has debuted back in 2014, worldwide, and it is riding on a new platform, shared with the Renault Twingo, offering it rear-wheel drive. The vehicle stands at 2,695 mm in length, 1,663 mm in width and 1,555 mm in height, weighing a total of 880 kg. The engine lineup includes a 0.9 liter turbocharged 3-cylinder unit, with 71 HP and 67 lb-ft of torque, along with a 0.9 liter turbocharged rated at 89 HP and 100 lb-ft of torque. The units are connected to a 5-speed manual transmission. You can read our review of the new-gen Smart ForTwo here.
