Spring looks ready to arrive as the Daimler marquee has decided to open the order books on the new smart fortwo cabrio, though eager customers will need to still wait out the winter with deliveries tipped for February.
Prices for the base model will kick off at 15,655 euros for the 52 kW (70 hp) engine mated to the twinamic dual clutch transmission and the cabrio will be available in the passion, prime and proxy trim lines. Pricing for the better suited 66 kW model and the twinamic will start at 16,550 euros – which is a steep 3,260 euros charge compared to the coupe version. For now, only the twinamic model has been made available, with the manual gearbox to be offered at a later date. Morphing the fortwo from coupe to cabrio will take 12 seconds and be available at any speed with a middle setup that makes the fortwo have a very large sunroof if the full cabrio feature is not needed. The usual setup with “tritop” folding sunroof and removable roof struts known from the past generation is also present, with the bars being housed in a special compartment in the tailgate.
If you want even more personalization apart from the aforementioned trim lines, smart also offers the Urban Style package for a sportier character – it brings amenities such as black wheel arch linings, black painted 16” aluminium wheels and a lowered chassis (10 mm down). The owner will also get a chrome-plated tailpipe trim while inside the cabin can be found a 3-spoke multifunction steering wheel wrapped in leather and brushed stainless steel pedals. The Urban Style package is only available for the passion and prime trim levels and will cost a cool 825 euros. By the way, all prices are for the home country of Germany, so availability will differ depending on the market.
