If you love both BMW automobile and art, here’s a chance to own a bespoke 740Li Individual model signed by a former BMW art car designer.
South African artist Esther Mahlangu was responsible back in 1991 for the year’s BMW Art Car – a 525i painted with her bold colors and geometric shapes. Because we’re talking about a model in the marquee’s Art Car collection, this customized sedan might never hit the auction block. Instead, BMW Individual has decided that anyone can try and own her work via one of the company’s models. Her unique 740Li will be available during a silent auction in the United Kingdom, with all proceeds going to The Art Room, a charity that uses art therapy to help kids with emotional and behavioral problems.
Mahlangu this time around focused on the interior trim for this 740Li. The design is similar with her Art Car as she focuses on bright colors and simple shapes like squares and triangles – mixing and matching all of these to deliver an intricate pattern. The exterior comes with BMW Individual Pure Metal Silver, while the interior is clad in Smoke White-color Merino leather, so the designer’s art is easily noticeable as the most colorful parts of the cabin. The car is debuting publicly at the Frieze Art Fair from October 5 through 9 in London’s Regent’s Park.
