The 2017 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF (Retractable Fastback), presented in the US during the New York Auto Show earlier this year, will become available across local dealerships next year.
And to secure ownership interest around the time when they would also want to open the top, Mazda has prepared the Launch Edition for the first 1,000 customers – bringing an unique trim combination and a 42-millimeter Tourneau watch. Mazda has decided to offer the Launch Edition looking entirely similar to the model that was seen by the public during the NY Auto Show – combining tri-coat Machine Gray Metallic paint, Auburn nappa leather, and a hand-painted black roof. This bespoke combination will not become available for any other 2017 Mazda MX-5 RF and additionally the Launch Edition also comes with Grand Touring trim options such as the LED running lights, automatic air conditioning, heated seats, and a safety suite that includes blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and lane departure warning.
Technically, the RF Launch Edition will not be different from a regular MX-5 Miata RF, as the owner can only choose between a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. All models use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder with 155 horsepower (116 kilowatts) and 148 pound-feet of torque (201 Newton-meters). The RF Launch Edition is going to be offered first to current Mazda owners with a history with the brand – and only afterwards to the general public.
