A production-ready prototype of the 2017 Audi R8 Spyder has been recently spied while undergoing final testing on the roads of Namibia – but the best of all is it was barren of any camouflage.
We’re expecting the official reveal to occur any time now since Audi has decided to ditch the camouflages – and the spy shots are actually confirming what we already know about the topless supercar. The most impressive modifications reside in the back where there’s a ventilated engine cover and a more upright window – reinforcements to the body structure are also visible and we’re expecting all these changes to have a toll on the total weight compared to the sleeker Coupe. Anyways the buyer won’t sense much of a difference since the top “Plus” version comes with a naturally-aspirated 5.2-liter V10 engine churning out 610 horsepower. The previously reported leaked roadmap also pitted a base R8 to come in the near future with a V6 engine and we’re expecting the powertrain to make the transition to the roadster as well.
We’re expecting the official reveal to take place anytime now, with the R8 commencing sales probably during the summer months in Europe and then making the trip across the ocean to the United States, We’re expecting the open-top supercar to sport a higher price tag than its covered brethren which in the US goes for at least $162,900.
