The future generation of the popular Toyota Prius has been caught on camera recently while being tested out on the streets in Thailand.
After being in production for about six years now, the Toyota Prius is getting ready to be significantly updated and the Japanese based automaker has chosen Thailand for testing the new model. The test mule pictured above has been wrapped up in a lot of camouflage but, even so, we can still notice the familiar design and chances are the looks of it will be evolutionary, with the “normal” changes made to the front fascia and to the rear end.
The modifications which will be made to the upcoming “green” vehicle will not stop here because we are talking about a new generation and we are expecting a completely new platform, a tweaked suspension system, better steering, a completely redesigned interior and new technology. The mid-sized hybrid will maintain its 5-door liftback body style but the 1.8 liter gasoline engine and the electric motor used in the current generation will most likely be dropped in favor of a newer powertrain. What will be used exactly under the hood of the new Toyota Prius generation remains unknown at this moment but expect improved performance and lower fuel consumption. Additional details on the 2016 Toyota Prius are limited for the moment and they might be released once this will be unveiled, probably during the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show, in September.
