The current flagship of the new G30 generation 5 Series is the 2017 M 550i xDrive and a pre-production vehicle was recently caught on the streets of Munich.
This is the top dog until the all-new M5 arrives, so the model is surely going to entice fans all around the world. This particular example was spotted in a parking lot in Germany’s third biggest city – sporting its evolutionary design. Styling is of course subject to personal interpretation, but the technical details do paint an absolute rocket picture. It has the same 4.4-liter V8 biturbo engine as the current M5 and new generation M5, but packing “just” 462 horsepower (340 kilowatts) and 479 pound-feet (650 Newton-meters) of torque. This makes it able to sprint to 62 mph (100 km/h) in four seconds – which is actually faster than the still sold M5.
While the only M5 versions able to get the green light faster are the 30 Jahre and Competition Edition versions, there aren’t many BMW’s pricier than this one in the midsize segment. It costs at least 82,700 euros – though the company also thinks owners will get to save a few pennies with the 8.9 liters / 100 km fuel consumption credential based on the overly optimistic New European Driving Cycle (NEDC).
