The next generation Renault Koleos – photographed here in mule guise – will evolve from its current compact SUV format to an MPV as hinted by the R Space Concept which debuted in Geneva 2011.
Despite its monospace dimensions the new Koleos will have off-road capability. The vehicle was a failure in almost all markets. In the U.K. the French automaker retired the Koleos in 2010 after they sold only 2,600 units in its entire sales period.
The only market where the vehicle sells well is China, where the vehicle starts at 229.800 yuan.
It is available with three engnes – the 2.5 L 16V 126 kW (171 PS; 169 bhp), 2.0 L dCi 110 kW (150 PS; 148 bhp) diesel and the 2.0 L dCi capable of 129 kW (175 PS; 173 bhp).
It is expected the new Renault Koleos to be available with a new 137hp 2.0 unit, which will bring the price down to some 210.000 yuan.
The vehicle is made in South Korea at Busan plant by Renault Samsung Motors, a subsidiary of Renault. It was tested by ADAC of Germany and received five stars in a crash-test done in 2008.
The car will debut sometime between 2014 and 2015.
