SRT is planning to develop a direct rival for the brand new 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, which will be based on the Challenger SRT8.
The upgraded Challenger SRT8 is expected to follow the same path as the Viper TA in terms of upgrades, coming with a new and improved braking system, a track-oriented suspension system, revised styling and several weight saving measure. Power will most likely be provided by the company’s 6.4 liter HEMI V8 engine, which is good for 470 BHP (350 kW) and 470 lb-ft of torque (637 Nm). These numbers are expected to increase, considering the fact that the Z/28 will have at least 500 BHP (373 kW) and 470 lb-ft of torque (637 Nm).
Additional details on the upgraded Challenger SRT8 remain unknown for the moment but, as a quick reminder, the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28 has been officially presented to the public during the 2013 New York Auto Show, last week. The model is powered by a 7.0 liter LS7 V8 engine, which is producing a total output of “at least” 500 BHP (373 kW) and 637 Nm of torque (470 lb-ft), as the carmaker is saying. The unit is mated to a six-speed Tremec transmission. The Camaro Z/28 has a four-tailpipe exhaust system, Brembo brakes and 19-inch alloy wheels, amongst others.
