The Korean automaker SsangYong is getting ready to introduce an off the shelf campervan conversion for its Turismo minivan, set to become one of the most affordable in the United Kingdom.
The Turismo Tourist has been cooked up with British campervan specialist Wellhouse – which is known on the market for the manufacturer approved conversion of the Ford Transit Custom. The standard equipment has things such as front seats that swivel and fold down into a pair of beds, an elevating roof, tailgate awning, two burner stove, sink, gas bottle, fridge, portable toilet, fresh and waste water containers, and 12 volt electrics. The Turismo is going to be the largest and most affordable full-size minivan on sale in the United Kingdom. It’s 201.9 inches (5130 millimeters) long, so it’s very close to commercial vehicle-based minivans.
Power will be provided by a Mercedes-sourced, 2.2-liter, four cylinder turbo diesel engine packing 178 horsepower (133 kilowatts) and 295 pound-feet (400 Newton meters) of torque – mated to a six-speed manual, or seven-speed automatic transmission and RWD or AWD. The regular Turismo starts from £24,995 and the Turismo Tourist will kick off at £29,995 – less than a Volkswagen California and the aforementioned Wellhouse Transit. Other options include interior heating, mains electricity hook-up, solar panels, and a four berth layout with an extra pair of beds located in the pop top.
