Our spy photographers have managed to capture on camera a test group with the SsangYong X100 prototypes in Southern Europe.
SsangYong is playing with the big boys now but the company is still a few years away until being considered a “threat” by most carmakers but even so, the development of a brand new model has begun. We are talking about an entry-level crossover which will be sitting below the Korando and which should go on sale across the Old Continent sometimes next year, in a very competitive “B-segment” for crossovers, where we can find models such as the Nissan Juke, the Peugeot 2008, the Renault Captur, the Ford EcoSport, the Chevrolet Trax, the Opel Mokka and so on.
The spy shots posted below are actually confirming the development of such a model which has been so rumored especially last year. Under the full camouflaged body, the new SsangYong X100 will be taking its styling cues from the recently unveiled XLV Concept and it should ride on a completely new platform. The engine lineup should include a 1.6 liter new four-cylinder gasoline burner, along with some diesel options, featuring start/stop technology and coming with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed CVT. The SsangYong X100 will be introduced in January 2015. Sales should begin a few months later.
