BBC dumped Ben Collins after being unmasked as Top Gear’s The Stig according to the Mirror newspaper.
This comes after tensions mounted over Collin’s autobiography which, if published, would reveal his identity as The Stig. Collins’ autobiography is set to come out in September this year.
Details about the Stig’s true identity have been trickling out for some time, including the recent discovery that Collins Auto-Sport, a company owned and operated by Ben Collins, claimed income from “driving services for the BBC, mainly in the Top Gear tv show.”
According to the same newspaper, Top Gear has already replaced Collins. The paper showed photographs of the apparent new Stig at a Nürburgring track event.
The BBC insists that keeping The Stig’s identity a mystery is crucial to his ¬daredevil role as test driver for Top Gear, which is watched by 350million viewers around the world.
