After being teased quite a lot recently and fans of the Japanese automaker have entered “a photoshop frenzy”, Subaru finally decided to release a first official image of the future BRZ, which is expected to go on sale in mid-2012, with its Boxer engine and rear-wheel drive technology.
After seeing so many teaser images of both the Toyota FT-86 and the Subaru BRZ, it seems that the official one released by the automaker place the BRZ in a light where the model doesn’t look like a regular Subaru, which can be either a good or a bad thing, depends on what “good” is to you.
The BRZ looks like a proper sports car with the characteristics such as the sills running between the front and rear wheel arches, the diffuser around the exhaust system and a very prominent rear wing. Adding the fact that this new model will be Boxer powered with rear-wheel drive, than fun is the word we are looking for.
The standard versions of both the BRZ and the FT-86 are most likely to develop around 150 kW from the 2.0 liter, four-cylinder Boxer engine, but at least for the Subaru, an upgrade is expected where the unit will generate around 180 kW for the STI version.
We don’t have any other official info on the new Subaru BRZ but the sports car is expected to debut at the 2011 Los Angeles Auto Show, which will open its gates on November 16.
