The 2016 edition of the ready to kick off but the automakers are already rushing out with last minute reveals that seek to steal the spotlight from the competitors.
One of the carmakers to pull such a feat was Subaru, which decided to provide a sneak preview of the 2017 Impreza to a select few a few hours before the New York International Auto Show opens its gates for the professional media representatives. The worldwide public debut is scheduled later on today and the 2017 Impreza only came in its sedan form – but we already know the hatchback model will also be present on the show floor in New York. The model depicted here is the 2.0i Sport and of course the 2017 Impreza wears a toned down exterior appearance compared to the concept car introduced last year. While it comes some way towards delivering a new design language, some of the fans would be disappointed as it doesn’t use more of the concept’s cues.
The interior is additionally not very different from the predecessor – only feels more upscale and refined. There are also good chances its cabin is also more spacious as the Impreza has grown in size compared to the outgoing model and some of the added inches will be where it matters – in the wheelbase. And Subaru has already tipped the Impreza to be using the new global platform which should be more comfortable thanks to bettered NVH levels. The architecture is also 70% to 100% more rigid and has a 50 percent lower body roll, while a lightweight procedure has also been applied.
