The Japanese automaker is gracing its fans not with one but with two special limited run models – the WRX STI Type RA and the BRZ tS, which this time around doesn’t come with extra oomph.
Instead future owners will receive a track-happy coupe with input from the STI division that can bring to life the inner mechanic with its manually adjustable rear wing made from carbon fiber. Fans expecting Subaru to bring the 2.0-liter boxer engine into the turbo era will remain unconsolable – the newly revealed tS version is coming to the United States as the version to have when even the Performance Package makes you long for more. And it’s also the version to have if you fancy spending your weekends at the track thanks to the range of updates.
No one is going to miss the massive carbon fiber wing fitted to the trunk and aerodynamically developed by Subaru Tecnica International (STI) to bring more downforce at the rear axle. It can be manually adjusted by the driver and works together with other aero tweaks – underspoliers fitted up front, at the rear and the sides. Subaru is also treating for the first time the BRZ to 18-inch wheels, a lightweight STI-inspired set that conceals the Brembo brakes for both axles. There are also SACHS dampers and coil springs again reworked by STI, as well as flexible V-braces in the engine area and new draw stiffeners for the chassis and sub-frame. The BRZ tS also packs Cherry Blossom Red and black accents as well as special logos on the outside while inside there’s leather and Alcantara upholstery with red stitching, a special gauge cluster and interior door trim, as well as “tS” logo embroidered onto the seatbacks. Subaru is again limiting production to 500 units, with WR Blue Pearl, Crystal Black Silica and Crystal White Pearl colors to choose from.
